And So It Begins...
The roofers are here! This is a (still growing) pile of gravel that they're scraping off my existing roof. I'd love to have a gravel roof again, for vintage authenticity, but they just don't do that anymore out here. You can't see my roof anyway, so I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
But think of all the cool things I could do with this rock!
* Crushed gravel paths
* Mud eliminator
* Weed deterrent
* Stuff to throw at the backs of peoples' heads during movies
* Hide it under leaves and dare others to jump into the "leaf pile"
The possibilities are pretty much endless.

Hike to Stewart Falls
The trail said "closed" but we went anyway. And so did a bunch of other people, mostly coming down.
Our first view of the falls. Fantastic!
The scenery was beautiful, but don't look at the scenery and walk at the same time. I was leading when I heard a muffled clumphffff from behind. I looked back to see Jaynee lying in the weeds and stinging nettle on the river side of the trail. There's the stumble rock in the middle of the trail, and there's the patch of weeds and stinging nettle she found herself in ... helpless.
We made it to the top. This picture is looking back down. A lot of water, and you can see the snow in this area had just recently melted. Too much mist from the water fall to get a decent close up picture.
We took pictures on the way back down.
Apparently that big puffy weed didn't want you to see the falls.
We saw a flock of about 12 turkeys on the way back.

Kayenta Street Painting Encore Day
Drew the Tim this time. 5' x 7'. :)
These photos are a bit deceiving -- there's actually a lot of color in there. Aside from that big patch of black fur, the rest is almost exclusively color, and there's very little white that's plain white. Her black fur on the back of her head is purple and gray with red undertones; the white fur under her neck is gold and blue and purple. Even the water has green and gold in it as well as blue. Superfun to lay down and blend all the different colors!

Kayenta Street Painting Festival
After getting rained/snowed out on Saturday, Sunday's street painting was a smashing success. :) Here are some photos of my drawing -- my running shoes on the Dino Cliffs trail.
I even made The Spectrum the local newspaper with another one of my stupid "wind in my hair" comments:
I even made The Spectrum the local newspaper with another one of my stupid "wind in my hair" comments:
Local artists like Stephanie Long, from St. George, used the occasion to try out their skills in a different environment.
Long, an avid runner, drew a pair of sneakers with Southern Utah's distinctive red rock landscape in the background.
"I'm a runner, and my favorite thing to do is run in these beautiful red hills," she said. "So I drew what I love."

Home Improvement
One day while on a trail run, I spotted a bunch of junk on the side of the dirt road I was on. So naturally, I investigated. There were boards with peeling paint -- bright colors, red, gold and lime green -- and a few palm fronds. It looked as if someone had disassembled a kitschy roadside taco stand. I wanted to bring it home, but I had too much stuff in the car, and it was getting late and really cold. All I wanted to do was take a hot shower and then cozy up to the fire; however, the fire was not to be. The day before I had the chimney inspector guy come out to clean and inspect, and he gave me a list of reasons precisely $2050 long why I should not attempt to build a fire.
Anyway, a few days later, I came back to the junk pile with Subaru and sidekick, and we salvaged the painted boards. A few table saw swipes later, I had an amped-up headboard for the downstairs guest suite.
And if that wasn't enough, this weekend was a rare 3-day weekend for me, and instead of using the extra day to freelance, or make an impromptu trip to another state, I tiled my bathroom floor, with mosaic riverstone.
I still need to seal the grout -- and then of course install new baseboard, do some touch-up paint, and oh yeah, put the toilet back. But for this being my first-ever tile job, I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. I already have the accessories all imagined! Haha...
It's nice to finally get to a place in my home improvement where it's fun visual stuff, as opposed to, say, getting rid of dead rodents.
